Early Admission

Students admitted into the Early Admission program replace their senior year of high school with their freshman year of college.

Students must complete their high school graduation requirements by the end of their first year of enrollment at the University of Utah.

Early Admission students are not eligible for federal financial aid until they have officially graduated from high school nor are they eligible for University of Utah merit scholarships for incoming freshmen. Applicants who wish to be considered for university merit scholarships should plan to graduate from high school before starting at the University of Utah and must apply as freshmen applicants.

Applicants for Early Admission should meet the following requirements:

• Cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.5 or higher
• Have completed their junior year of high school
• Demonstrate high levels of maturity and self-motivation
• New Admissions Criteria:
  • The University of Utah is Test Optional for freshman applications through Fall 2024 admission.
  • ACT/SAT scores are not required for admission, merit scholarships (including department scholarships), or direct admission programs (including Engineering).
  • Freshman applications to the University of Utah through Fall 2024 will be evaluated using a holistic review process that takes into consideration factors such as a student’s high school GPA, course rigor, etc.

  The Early Admission program only admits students to the Fall semester.

  The completed application and all materials are due on April 1.

  

  Students attending on a student visa are not eligible to apply for Early Admission.

  Complete Early Admission Forms

  Student and parent/guardian must complete the Application for Early Admission.

  The principal or counselor of the high school must complete the Early Admission – School Recommendation Form.

  

  Send forms directly to the Office of Admissions by May 1.

  Complete the Online Application

  Apply for admission by submitting the application for undergraduate admissions.

  Be sure to fill out the application completely, as it will be used to determine your

  • Admissibility
  • Residency for tuition purposes
  • Eligibility for the Utah Flagship Early Admission Scholarship

  Once an application has been started, you will be able to save and continue at any time until submitted.

  

  Once submitted, you can no longer make changes to your application.

  Pay Application Fee

  The application fee for undergraduate domestic students is $55 and is non-refundable.

  The application fee may be waived for applicants who provide documentation of financial hardship. You will be automatically considered for an admissions application fee waiver, and will not be required or prompted to pay an application fee when submitting your Common App if you are:

  • A first-time Freshman who has a permanent address in Utah or attend(ed) a tribal high school located in Utah
  • Military Connected (meaning a student is an active military member, veteran, or the dependent of an active military member or veteran)

  

  Fees must be paid online within the application.

  Send Your Transcripts

  Please submit an official high school transcript.

  Paper transcripts can be mailed directly from the high school or brought in an envelope sealed by the high school to:

  Electronic transcripts can be requested through one of the following services.

  • Parchment/Naviance
  • National Student Clearinghouse
  • Credentials Solutions
  • E-Scrip Safe
  • Scoir

  If prompted for a recipient email address when ordering your transcript, please use admisstranscripts@utah.edu.

  

  Transcripts sent directly through email or fax will not be considered official.

  Send Your Test Scores

  IF REQUIRED, test scores must be sent directly from ACT or from College Board using the following test code numbers:

  4274 for the ACT

  4853 for the SAT

  

  Test scores cannot be accepted via a high school transcript.

  Track Your Application

  Your application will be evaluated once we receive a completed application, application fee, and all required documentation.
