Georgia Agencies

Georgia
Georgia's building codes are generally regulated by the Department of Consumer Affairs for the Georgia state minimum standard codes and the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire for state fire safety codes.

The Georgia State Minimum Standard Codes consist of mandatory and permissible codes.

The mandatory codes are the building, residential, fire, plumbing, mechanical, gas, electrical, energy, and swimming pool codes. The mandatory codes are applicable to all construction state-wide; whether or not a local government chooses to locally enforce these codes. Permissive codes are applicable only when specifically adopted by a local government.

However, local governments may, under certain conditions, adopt local amendments to the state minimum standard codes. Any/all local amendments must be submitted to the state for review and approval.
